Technology rating scale is used by ARENA and covers the lab to pilots, to implemented in the field.
Commercial rating scale is also used by ARENA and indicates if money and markets are still a barrier to a new technology - ie it might work fine but be too expensive.
Hype cycle is a well known phenomena where we get excited about something saving the world and then all goes quiet for a few years while it works out its niche and slowly makes a practical impact on the world.
